The automotive market in the Philippines continues to thrive, with consumer preferences traditionally leaning toward established brands. However, these well-known players are now facing increasing competition from newer entrants, many of which hail from China.
For those of you keen on the numbers and looking to understand the local automotive landscape, AutoDeal.com.ph offers a valuable perspective. As the most comprehensive automotive website in the country, we handle thousands of inquiries and facilitate the sale of countless vehicles in partnership with leading automakers.
So, without further ado, here’s a breakdown of the most popular makes and models for the first half of 2024.
Top 10 most inquired brands
In the first half of 2024, big global brands continue to dominate the Philippine automotive market, with Toyota leading the pack at 26.84% of inquiries, followed by Mitsubishi at 12.92% and Ford at 10.26%. Suzuki and Nissan also maintain strong positions with 7.71% and 7.66%, respectively, while Honda captures 5.29%. Hyundai and Kia, two well-known Korean brands, follow closely behind with 5.04% and 4.63%. Isuzu rounds out the top contenders at 4.07%.
Notably, MG, a rising brand from China under the SAIC group, is gaining significant traction, accounting for 3.27% of inquiries and showing potential for further growth in the local market.
Top 20 most-inquired models
In the first half of 2024, the Ford Ranger, a popular pickup truck, led the pack as the most inquired model with 3.46% of inquiries. Close behind was the Mitsubishi Xpander, a family-oriented MPV, at 3.29%. Toyota saw strong interest across several models, with the Raize (2.98%), Vios (2.92%), and Wigo (2.27%) among the top inquiries. Compact vehicles like the Suzuki S-Presso (2.86%) also ranked highly.
Notably, the GAC GS3 Emzoom, a relatively new compact crossover from China, made waves with 1.99% of inquiries, highlighting its growing popularity. Other frequently inquired models included the Ford Everest (2.84%), Nissan Navara (2.66%), and Toyota Hilux (2.46%), showing strong demand for SUVs and trucks in the Philippine market.
Top 10 most sold brands
While inquiries provide insights into consumer interest, actual vehicle sales reveal which brands buyers truly trust. In the first half of 2024, Mitsubishi led the way with 22.14% of sales, followed by Ford at 19.13% and Toyota at 16.54%, showing that these established brands continue to earn the confidence of Filipino buyers. Nissan also secured a strong share with 10.68%, and Isuzu rounded out the top five with 4.97%.
Interestingly, both MG and GAC, rising Chinese brands, made it into the top 10, accounting for 2.99% and 2.64% of sales, respectively. This suggests a growing trust in these newer entrants as they continue to carve out their place in the market. Other notable brands like Hyundai (4.90%), Suzuki (4.70%), Honda (2.99%), and Kia (2.93%) also maintained their presence, but the increased acceptance of Chinese brands signals a shift in consumer perception.
Top 20 most sold models
In terms of actual models, the Ford Ranger topped the charts in the first half of 2024 with 6.62% of total sales. Along with being the most-inquired model in the first half of 2024, this cements the Ranger as the most popular pickup truck in the Philippines.
The Ranger was closely followed by the Ford Everest at 6.09%, indicating Ford's strong foothold in the pickup and SUV segments. The Mitsubishi Xpander came in third at 5.75%, proving its popularity among MPV buyers, while the Ford Territory (4.67%) and Mitsubishi Montero Sport (4.49%) also performed well.
Nissan’s Navara (4.46%) continued to gain traction, and smaller models like the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 (2.91%) and Suzuki S-Presso (2.45%) found their place in the market. Notably, the GAC GS3 Emzoom captured 2.24% of sales, reflecting growing trust in newer Chinese models. Other popular vehicles included the Toyota Hilux (2.41%), Vios (2.22%), and Hyundai Stargazer (2.64%). Isuzu's lineup, including the Mu-X (1.72%) and D-MAX (1.45%), also showed steady performance in the utility segment, while Kia's Stonic (1.49%)—now succeeded by the Sonet—added diversity to the top-selling models.
