Audi extends Q lineup with Q2 compact SUV

The compact SUV and crossover segment continues to trend globally as Audi added the smallest member of its Q model lineup – the Q2. It may look compact but the German marque claims that it’s full-sized when it comes to features.

Up front, the all-new Q2 doesn’t depart from the usual Audi design. Its octagonal-trapezoidal honeycomb grille is positioned high, while the air inlets are huge as well. It’s worth mentioning, though, that among the grilles of Audi’s SUV lineup, only the Q2 has the honeycomb design.

In addition, the all-new Q2 has a low roofline, particularly at the back as the roof slopes downward towards the off-colored C pillar blades. Combined with the robust fascia, it gives the Q2 an athletic outgoing appeal.

When it comes to its dimension, the all-new Q2 is slotted to be a bit bigger than the local compact crossovers like the Nissan Juke or the Chevrolet Trax. It’s 1790 mm wide, 4190 mm long, and has a wheelbase of 2600 mm. However, its low roofline design makes it a bit short in height with 1510 mm.

Inside, Audi promises comfort and good visibility of an SUV, combined with the seating position and design of a sports car. The flat bottom steering wheel adds to the sportiness of this German compact SUV, which is in perfect combination with the circular vents and clear dashboard with less buttons.

In addition to the legible analog gauge clusters, the all-new Q2 has a 12.3-inch infotainment system that displays high definition graphics. It offers 2 display modes that can be toggled through the steering wheel – one that displays the tachometer and speedometer, while the other is focused on infotainment and navigation. A head-up display is also in place in the driver’s field of vision for safer driving.

Moreover, both the driver and passenger seats can be adjusted in a variety of ways, depending on the variant. That goes the same at the back, which can either be in 60:40 or 40:20:40 split configuration. With all seats erect, the compartment can accommodate up to 405L of cargo, which can be further maximized by to 1,050L by folding them all down.

In addition to the interior amenities, the Q2 also boasts a number of driver assistance systems that they deem to be from the full-size SUV class. As a standard, this compact SUV comes with Audi Pre-Sense Front, which can detect crossing pedestrians or other vehicles in front.

Using high-technology radar and camera, optional features in the all-new Q2 include adaptive cruise control with stop & go function, traffic jam assist, active lane assist, and park assist.

Under its hood, the German compact SUV is available in a wide variety of engine options – both in gasoline or diesel. These are 116-hp 1.0L TFSI, 150-hp 1.4L TFSI CoD, 116-hp 1.6L TDI, 2.0L TDI, and 2.0L TDI Quattro. They are then mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed S tronic dual clutch automatic transmission.

The engine option offerings depend on the variant, which will be 4 in the UK. The SE variant is the entry-level class, while Sport and S line are the mid-class. The top-ranging option is called Edition #1, which is equipped by either the 1.4L TFSI or the 2.0L TDI engines.

The prices of the all-new Audi Q2 has been released in the UK, and the first units are set to arrive this November. However, we have not heard from Audi Philippines if and when will they bring this new compact SUV in their local showrooms.
