The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced that it will be soon using a new contact tracing app for the MRT lines. It is hoped that the new application dubbed the MRT-3 Trace will help in preventing the spread of the still ongoing pandemic. The application is set to undergo a soft launch on January 18. This new application will utilize a QR Code system and will replace the pen and paper setup that the MRT currently utilizes.
According to Arthur Tugade, the head of the DOTr, the new application will help the government agency reduce contact between commuters and the MRT-3 employees of the MRT-3. On top of this, the app will also help speed queues along at stations thanks to the QR code-based feature.
It is important to remember that before you can use the phone application you will first need to register at trace.dotrmrt3.gov.ph. From there you will need to fill in the necessary details to complete the registration process. When it comes to utilizing the app itself, all the user will need to do is scan the unique QR codes that are in designated areas of each MRT-3 station and must then show their verification code to personnel prior to entering.
If you don’t have a smartphone or a phone that is compatible with the application, don’t worry as the DOTr says that it will still keep the manual option to fill out the health declaration forms. It is important to note that the application will be available for use on January 18, 2021, however, its full implementation is scheduled for sometime in February 2021. The DOTr says that this gives the commuters enough time to get familiar with the application and to get used to the new contact-tracing process. With the integration of smartphones and the new app, it could streamline contact tracing for other MRT lines and other forms of transportation as well.
