Ford Philippines will recall a small number of units of the Everest and Ranger

Ford Australia has initiated a safety recall encompassing models produced between 2021 and 2023 of their Ranger and Everest vehicles. The recall pertains to vehicles equipped with the 2.0-liter, four-cylinder Bi-Turbo engine coupled with Ford's E-Shifter technology. 

This recall has been prompted by the potential malfunction of the E-Shifter system, which, under specific conditions, could lead to an unexpected cessation of the vehicle's movement without the simultaneous activation of the rear brake lights, as originally intended.

The official document outlining the recall, disseminated by the Australian government's Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, and the Arts, elucidates that a software-related issue is at the heart of the concern. In certain scenarios, when the battery's charge level falls below a critical threshold, the transmission might inadvertently shift into Park mode while the vehicle is traveling at speeds lower than 6 km/h. This anomaly could lead to an abrupt halt in movement without the expected illumination of the rear brake lights. To mitigate this potential issue, owners of the affected vehicles have been advised to reach out to their preferred Ford Authorized Dealership promptly. The recommended course of action entails the repair of the exit warning system, and this service will be rendered to the affected vehicles without any charge.

The problem appears to be specific to models equipped with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder Bi-Turbo engine, which is coupled with Ford's E-Shifter technology. According to a spokesperson from Ford Australia, the issue stems from a supplier-related glitch in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software. This glitch can lead to a limitation in the alternator's charging output under specific circumstances, thereby triggering the unexpected transmission behavior.

While the safety recall has thus far been localized to Australia, a significant point of concern arises from the sourcing of vehicles. Both Australia and the Philippines source a substantial number of their Ranger and Everest units from the same manufacturing plant in Rayong, Thailand. The vehicles in question share this common origin, thereby prompting speculation about the potential impact on the local Philippine units. 

To address these concerns, Ford Philippines has issued the following statement: We are confirming that the service action covers a small number of Ford Everest vehicles in the Philippines. Owners can access www.ford.com.ph/owner/field-service-actions/ to check if their vehicles are part of the service action. Affected owners will also be notified so they can bring their vehicles to a Ford dealer for repair.  Our dealers are aware and are prepared to complete the necessary repair action. At Ford, safety and quality are our top priorities and we are committed to inform owners of the recall actions promptly."
