The Hyundai Motor ASEAN HQ, in collaboration with UNESCO APCEIU and the South Korean Ministry of Education, has extended the reach of the Future Mobility School program to ASEAN nations. Classes for the fall semester of 2023 have been in full swing since August, consisting of a total of 12 schools, distributed among three in Indonesia, five in Malaysia, and four in Cambodia.
The Future Mobility School initiative was initially introduced by Hyundai Motor Company and the South Korean Ministry of Education back in 2016. In this current year, Hyundai Motor ASEAN HQ, in partnership with UNESCO APCEIU, has spearheaded the expansion of the program into ASEAN countries. A team of 23 highly skilled South Korean teachers has been carefully selected to provide a diverse range of educational activities to students in primary, junior, and senior high schools across Indonesia, Malaysia, and Cambodia.
Within this program, students gain insight into groundbreaking developments within the mobility sector, including autonomous driving systems, electrification, and environmentally sustainable transportation solutions. The program has been meticulously crafted to offer an educational experience characterized by hands-on projects, active discussions, and interactive workshops. It immerses students in the captivating evolution of mobility innovations spanning various decades. Hyundai is effectively teaching a new generation of automotive enthusiasts.
“Hyundai is committed to using mobility for the betterment of humanity, and we believe that education plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation, especially in ASEAN countries, with its demographic bonus. Future Mobility School is one of the ways we can prepare youths in ASEAN countries on the emerging career paths to become leaders of the mobility industry themselves.”
Three distinct classes are offered to primary and junior students, including "Eco-Friendly Mobility for a Sustainable Planet," "Crafting Our Future Mobility," and "Designing the City of Tomorrow." These classes foster an environment where students are motivated to unleash their creativity and articulate their distinctive visions of future cities and vehicles through the creation of clay sculptures and drawings.
Meanwhile, senior students enroll in two advanced courses: "Comprehensive Insights into Autonomous Driving Technology" and "Hands-On Autonomous Driving Mobility," gaining a thorough understanding of safety technologies used in autonomous driving systems. They also get the opportunity to construct their own model cars to directly assess the functionality of autonomous driving features.
Since the program first launched in 2016, the Future Mobility School program in South Korea has engaged more than 46,500 students. Hyundai is hoping that the program will extend its positive impact to the participating ASEAN countries and set the stage for a future launch in the Philippines and Thailand.
