UPDATE (05/03/2019): The public closure of the Marcos Bridge has been moved to May 11, 2019.
Marcos Highway Bridge is getting closed down for eight months. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced on April 30, 2019, that it will be rehabilitating the structure and will be closing it off for public use starting 11 PM on May 11, 2019.
The rehabilitation was long overdue said Jojo Garcia, MMDA’s General Manager. Contractors have been requesting the schedule of repairs since last year. The private contractors of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will be the ones responsible for the work on the westbound part of the bridge after four months.
A total of 3,000 motorists per hour will be affected by the bridge according to Garcia. The truck ban in the area will also be adjusted as the bridge is also a major route for commercial vehicles looking to reach Marco Highway. The truck ban will now run from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. instead of 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Signages will also be present to aid motorists in detouring. As such, motorists will now be advised to take Aurora Boulevard and then traverse A. Boni Flyover to go to Sumulong Highway in Antipolo. After that a right turn to Katipunan Avenue, then a left turn to Boni Serrano and take FVR road straight to Macapagal Bridge to finally end up in Marcos Highway on the way to Antipolo.
For rerouting information for smaller vehicles, Waze will be of assistance when it comes to taking a detour.
Motorists can also take a right turn on 15th Avenue, then a left turn to Boni Serrano. Then take FVR Road straight to Macapagal Bridge to end up in Marcos Highway, bound for Antipolo.
Truck drivers taking the route from Cubao to Antipolo need to take Aurora Boulevard then make a right turn to Katipunan Avenue and a left to Boni Serrano. They then have to take a U-Turn to C-5, head straight to FVR road and make a right to Katipunan Avenue, then a left turn to Aurora Boulevard and head straight to Sumulong highway to Antipolo.
For routes from Antipolo to Cubao, motorists can take Sumulong Highway to A. Bonifacio Avenue to end up in Aurora Boulevard. Once on Marcos Highway, take a right turn to Fernando Avenue, then take A. Bonifacio Avenue straight to Aurora Boulevard. You may then take A. Bonifacio Avenue and head straight to Aurora Boulevard, Marcos Highway then FVR Road. Make a right turn to Katipunan Avenue then a left to Aurora Boulevard straight to Cubao. Or you can take Marcos Highway, then FVR road, end up in Boni Serrano and take a right to 20th Avenue, then a left to Aurora Boulevard to Cubao.
