The Mazda BT-50 has been around in the market for quite some time now. Gladly, the midsize pickup did age gracefully, with its styling cues remaining to be quite appealing up to now. Now, the brand wants to give its BT-50 line a bit more of that youthful and rugged approach, therefore, they’ve decided to release a Pangolin trim for the midsize pickup.
Notably, this trim pays tribute to the Philippine Pangolin, which is a creature that’s been facing declining numbers as of today, Katala Foundation even states that this sort of mammal will soon face the threat of extinction.
While the rest of the BT-50 packaging remains almost the same, the radical changes can be seen on its exterior. Notably, it gets a number of special reinforcements, such as the black details on its roof rack, step boards, fender flares, sports bar, and even on the 17-inch Rota alloy wheels. The following aesthetic upgrades do uplift the rugged and sporty profile of the midsize pickup, plus, the Pangolin detailings also goes by in accordance with its goal of providing greeted awareness with this endangered creature.
As much as it looks rugged on its skin, the BT-50 Pangolin comes with a number of creature comforts, including the 7-inch JVC touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone automatic climate control, and leather seats.
The mechanicals remains as it is, with the midsize pickup still being run by the proven 3.2-liter 5-cylinder turbo diesel engine. Currently, the said mill still boasts of such esteemed capability, with it producing a healthy 197 hp and 470 Nm of torque. Power is then sent on all wheels and it’s paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Of course, Mazda didn’t forget its safety aspect, with the pickup earning necessary equipment such as dual-front airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution and Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, and many more.
The Mazda BT-50 Pangolin is priced at P1,550,000, which actually costs exactly the same as the standard 4x4. However, Mazda Philippines has conducted an introductory rate for this pickup, with its price decreasing at only P1,400,000, that’s actually P150,000 less than its SRP. Like all Mazda vehicles, the BT-50 Pangolin also comes with a 5-year free service plan worth P150,000.
Apart from satisfying many pickup buyers out there, this Pangolin edition shall further empower and spread greater awareness of Palawan’s endangered mammal.
