The Toyota Avanza has been in the Philippine automotive market for quite some time now with only minor updates done to the popular model. While it did receive a facelift a few years back and was given a new variant, the overall vehicle along with its engine and chassis remained the same. With that said this makes the MPV a prime candidate to get an all-new model sometime soon.
Reports coming from Indonesia speculate that the 3rd-generation of the vehicle will soon be making its debut soon. It was initially rumored that it would be making its presence known as early as December 2020. However, when that didn’t happen its possible launch date was moved to early 2021 instead.
Based on the reports, the next-generation Avanza is said to come with a drivetrain change as well as a new chassis. It will now reportedly come in front-wheel-drive and a new unibody chassis. Just as a reminder, the current generation of the Toyota Avanza currently sits on a body-on-frame chassis and comes in rear-wheel-drive. Further, still, reports indicate that the new vehicle will be using the new Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) which is a derivative of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) structure.
As for its exterior looks, the new design will reportedly be a revolutionary upgrade over the current model and is said to look similar to the DN Multi-six concept vehicle that was shown at the 2017 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show. Should this report hold to be true, then we should soon see the version of the vehicle wearing a Toyota badge.
Power figures and engine options of the next-generation have yet to materialize, however, we suspect that it will carry over the same engine found in the Toyota Vios. Transmission options are also unknown, however, a CVT option is a likely option for the compact MPV.
