It's only a matter of time before Mazda introduces the 4th-generation Mazda3 to the automotive world. Reports say it will have a new spark plug-less engine under its hood.
This spark-less engine will use the homogenous charge compression ignition (HCCI) technology. This takes away the presence of spark plugs in the engine that is needed for combustion. Instead, it will work like a diesel engine, where the fuel will be compressed rather than having the need for ignition.
According to Motoring, the Japanese company is just weeks away from the reveal of its acclaimed HCCI technology, which is due this month. The report goes on by saying that Mazda’s compact car will bear the new "SkyActiv II" engine.
The Australian online publication also tackled the impending reincarnation of a rotary-powered sports car, a.k.a. the RX-Vision concept. Mazda is said to be developing a way for the application of HCCI in the said rotary engine.
Alongside this, the Mazda is also looking forward to a new-generation BT-50 that is based on the Isuzu D-Max, as well as its first all-electric car. A plug-in hybrid will also be introduced by 2021.
Moreover, Motoring brought up that there is a possibility of Mazda introducing MPS (Mazda Performance Series) models. These units are said to be integrated with the HCCI version of the 2.5-liter turbo-gasoline engine found under the hood of the CX-9.
There are already a number of rival manufacturers who already tapped into developing a spark plug-less gasoline engine, including General Motors and Nissan.
