Angie King surely knows how to make a statement as she scored her maiden win during the 5th round of the 2017 Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific in Sepang, Malaysia. This comes after her successful debut race for the said series where King finished in 2nd place.
The Ferrari Challenge is one of the brand’s program under the Corse Clienti. It features a series of races and trainings for Ferrari clients globally. The Italian automaker holds track training races to achieve the dream of competing at the tracks in Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific. The last Filipino to compete in the series was Vicente Florendo in 2015. Currently, King is competing in the Pirelli AM class of the 2017 Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific.
During the 5th round, China’s Yanbing Xing started the race from pole but King was relentless as she challenged the Chinese driver for 1st place. Xing suffered a hit on lap 8, which gave the opportunity for King to claim pole position.
King crossed the finish line in 1st place, followed by Japan’s Ken Seto who was behind by 6.194 seconds. Xing managed to make up for the unfortunate incident and completed the top 3 drivers.
"I’m so happy to be in first place. Thank you Ferrari Philippines for all the love and support."
At the end of the 5th round, King sits in 4th place overall in the driver standings of the Pirelli AM class. This is despite the fact that she entered the race series only by the 4th round. The current top driver is Taiwan’s Tiger Wu, followed by Seto in 2nd, and Xing in 3rd.
