Caltex helps fund a school every time you refuel

Jumpstarting the upcoming school year, Caltex Philippines has launched a community campaign called “Fuel Your School” as a way to help thousands of bright senior public high school students by funding their Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) projects.

Motorists can take part of this campaign that fuels bright minds and provide educators with the classroom supplies everytime they gas up.

From June 15 to July 15, 2015, Caltex will donate P1 for every 4-liters of fuel bought at participating Caltex fuel stations in Metro Manila. The goal is to hit P5 million to fund STEM classroom materials (as much as P150,000 per school), benefiting at least 700 teachers and 9,000 students in Metro Manila. This involves 33 highest-need public senior high schools shortlisted by the Department of Education (DepEd).

Meanwhile, its project partner American Chamber Foundation of the Philippines (ACFP) will be tasked to qualify submitted project proposals from schools as well as supervise the purchase of the much needed STEM equipment and materials.

“Caltex Fuel Your School strongly reflects our company’s continued commitment to education. I believe if you take a combination of quality school equipment, passionate teachers, and motivated students, that’s when education becomes very powerful. Through this project, we hope to further empower the teachers and spur the students’ interest to help them excel in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics,” said Raissa Bautista, CPI Manager for Policy, Government and Public Affairs.

Under the K to 12 program, STEM is part of a “specialized” educational track signed by President Benigno “Noy Noy” Aquino III last May 2013. It allows senior high school students gain the right skills for their chosen career path based upon their aptitude, interests, and school capacity. Other academic track includes business, accountancy, and management (BAM) and humanities, education, social sciences (HESS).

Caltex’s Fuel Your School program is part of Chevron’s Energy for Learning Initiative which supports educational programs that create opportunities for individuals. As a fuel and energy company, Caltex has expressed its support for STEM because it wants to help mold more experts in the field of science and engineering where companies may find the need to employ bright, well-cultured, and creative minds in the future.
