First look on the all-new 2016 Hyundai Elantra before it hits Philippine shores

The 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show was host to the unveiling of the all-new 2016 Hyundai Elantra. Now on its 6th generation, it will offer sophisticated aerodynamic design, new engines, better ride quality and noise isolation, state-of-the-art technology, and a wide array of safety enhancements.

The first thing you'll notice with the 2016 Elantra is its redesigned fascia. It now bears Hyundai's huge hexagonal grille that can be seen on their new models. It is positioned lower than before which is complemented by HID headlamps and the new vertically-positioned daytime running lights.

On its side, bold character lines define the all-new Elantra's body. It has a bunch of LED lit parts such as door handle approach lights, side mirror turning lights, and tail lights to accentuate its beauty. These, plus the slight increase in its dimensions, gives it a sporty yet classy appeal; not to mention that it will come with 17-inch alloy wheels.

The all-new Elantra also features functional front wheel air curtains that helps control the airflow from the front and around the wheels. This minimizes turbulence and drag. To complete its aerodynamic construction, underbody covers, rear bumper bottom spoiler, and rear decklid are also added to achieve the 0.27 coefficient of drag that the it boasts.

The interior is clothed with soft materials, intuitive controls, and ample space for the driver and the passengers. The instrument panel is displayed in a 4.2-inch TFT colored LCD while the rest of the dashboard has the same layout as the other new Hyundai models.

Technology has also been drastically improved as convenient features are now present with the all-new Elantra. These include memory system for the seats and side mirrors, dual zone automatic A/C controls with auto defogging system, and auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Entertainment inside the Elantra will be through a 7-inch touchscreen display that is Android and Apply ready. This will include an 8-speaker Infinity premium audio system with a center speaker and a subwoofer. It will also feature the next-generation Hyundai Blue Link system, which can be controlled through the latest Android Wear and new Apple Watch smartwatch offerings.

Furthermore, the head unit will also use Harman's patented Clari-Fi technology which increases the fidelity of the sound that will be produced.

When it comes to its engine, the new Elantra receives 2 new power plants. The base SE and the Limited variants will use the 2.0L Nu MPI Atkinson 4-cylinder engine. It can produce 147 hp and 132 Nm of torque. This new engine is the only Atkinson cycle engine that will be integrated with multi-port injection in the compact sedan class. It will then be mated to either 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.

On the other hand, Elantra Eco trim, which will enter US showrooms by the 2nd quarter of 2016, will be powered by a 1.4L Kappa turbocharged GDI 4-cylinder engine. It can max out up to 128 hp and 156 Nm of torque. Mated to an EcoShift 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, the new Kappa engine will have an incredible estimated fuel consumption of 14.9 km/l.

Aside from receiving a strengthened chassis, the new Elantra has its front side members constructed with a new hexagonal design. The rear doors has dual impact beams. This restructured body is combined with 7 airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Traction Control, ABS, and a tire pressure monitoring system to boost its arsenal when it comes to safety.

And that's not all. The new Elantra has intelligent features that can be found on fancy brands. This includes an automatic emergency braking system with pedestrian detection, Dynamic Bending Light technology, smart trunk, blind spot detection, and Smart Cruise Control (SCC).

With all the upgrades and technology onboard this stunningly smart sedan, we can’t wait to get our hands on this for a test drive. The all-new Hyundai Elantra is due to be launched in the Philippines this December 3, 2015.
