Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI) appears to be determined in addressing the issue of climate change as its corporate social responsibility (CSR) body HARI Foundation, Inc. (HFI) partnered with the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB).
Last March, HFI signed a memorandum of cooperation (MOC) with ACB to spread the word about climate change on a regional scale. For the uninitiated, ACB is an intergovernmental organization that facilitates the cooperation among the 10 ASEAN Member States, as well as other institutions that share the same advocacy.
Of note, HFI will present the Hyundai Icon for Biodiversity to the winners of the ASEAN Biodiversity Heroes – an award in observance of the ASEAN's Golden Anniversary. 10 winners representing each of the Member States, including Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam will be announced on August 7, 2017 at the New World Manila Bay Hotel.
The 'Heroes' will be entitled as ambassadors of biodiversity conservation in Southeast Asia. They will be subjected to projects that will inspire the public to support ACB's advocacy.
“By recognizing and supporting the work of these eco-warriors, we are looking to inspire more people to be biodiversity heroes in their respective sectors and so spark a regional movement that will intensify the clamor and facilitate shifts in governance and business strategies to support the global movement to save our planet.”
The ASEAN Biodiversity Heroes is supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Philippines, the European Union (EU), and the ASEAN Secretariat.
