The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) reported an increase of 8.6% sales for October 2016.

The increase was contributed by both the Passenger Car (PC) and Commercial Vehicle (CV) segments, which rose in terms of year-on-year basis. The PC segment is reported to have increased by 2.3% with 11,499 units sold, 264 more of last year's sales. The CV segment, on the other hand, rose by 12.6% with 19,633 units sold compared from October last year.

Records shows that in the CV segment, most categories significantly thrived. In comparison to last year, Category I (Asian Utility Vehicles or AUVs) garnered 42.4% with 6,231 units sold compared to October last year with 4,377 units sold. Category III (Light Trucks) increased by 70.1% with 842 units sold from 495 units same month last year. Category IV (Trucks and Buses) met an 84.6% increase with 347 as compared from the same month last year with 188 units sold. Category V (Heavy Duty Trucks and Buses) sold over 193 units, a 53.2% increase compared to 126 units sold in the same month last year.

The only category that dropped in unit sales was Category II (Light Commercial Vehicles or LCV). The statistics showed that sales in October 2016 declined by 1.8% with 12,020 units, considering the 12,246 units sold during the same period last year.

Moreover, the report shows a total of 31,132 units sold in October this year. Although it is a significant increase compared from last year, it slightly declined by roughly 1% compared to September 2016's sale with 31,451 units sold.

Even though the CV segment pulled up by 1.5% with 19,633 units sold compared from September 2016's 19,341, the slight decline of sales in October 2016 can be attributed to the (PC) segment. Of note, the September 2016 statistics showed 12,110 sales in the PC segment, which is 611 units more as compared to the 11,499 units sold in October.

In total, the year-on-year vehicle sales as of October reached 292,502 units. The market is still being led by Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation with 44.18% market share, followed by Mitsubishi Motor Philippines Corporation with 17.18%. On the third spot is Ford Motor Philippines, Inc. with 9.39% share, while Isuzu Philippines Corporation falls in fourth place with 7.46% share. Completing the top 5 is Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. with 6.42% market share.
