Volvo has been teasing about the XC40 for quite a time now. The premium compact SUV has circulated the internet with partial body shots and videos, like the one showcasing its cabin space. Now, the Swedish automaker has launched the vehicle in its entire beauty with a new special program as standard.
First of all, the XC40's exterior gives off a youthful vibe with its large wheels, prominent wheel arches, 211mm ride height, and its 2-tone finish. The color combinations on the vehicle's 2-tone body ranges up to 17 combinations for added personalization. The front is dominated by a new grille design with a set of headlights with Thor's hammer daytime running lights, which we think is pretty neat.
As for further technology, the XC40 shares the same safety, connectivity, and infotainment features found on its big brothers, the new XC90 and XC60 models. Of note, safety and driver assistance features on the compact SUV include Volvo's Pilot Assist system, City Safety, Run-off Road protection and mitigation, Cross Traffic alert with brake support, and a 360-degree camera.
“The XC40 is our first entry in the small SUV segment, broadening the appeal of the Volvo brand and moving it in a new direction. It represents a fresh, creative and distinctive new member of the Volvo line-up. So, it only feels natural to reveal the XC40 here in Milan, a buzzing European hotspot for fashion, art, design and lifestyle.”
Production for the new XC40 is scheduled to begin in November at Volvo Cars' plant in Ghent, Belgium. From start of production, the XC40 will be available with either a D4 diesel or a T5 gasoline 4-cylinder Drive-E powertrain.
In addition, the XC40 will be Volvo's first model to bear the company's 3-cylinder engine. However, Volvo claims that a hybrid and full electric version would follow later on.
