Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar announced the partial opening of the Plaza Dilao Ramp of Skyway Stage 3 last July 22, 2019. Skyway Stage 3 is a 18.66-kilometer long elevated expressway that stretches from Buendia in Makati City to Balintawak, Quezon City. Once this is completed, it is expected to reduce travel time from Makati City to Balintawak from two hours to just 20 minutes.
"To ease traffic congestion in Buendia, we are opening two lanes, one of the northbound and southbound sections. The 3.7 km elevated highways expand from Buendia to Plaza Dilao," Villar noted. Skyway stage 3 was designed to have six lanes, three on either side, but out of the six only two lanes are currently usable.
However don't expect to hit highway speeds just yet. A maximum speed of 40 km/h will be maintained along the main viaduct along with a 20 km/h speed limit at the ramps.
Skyway Stage 3 will have 8 access ramps1. Buendia Avenue (South Super Highway, Makati City)
2. President Quirino Avenue (Malate, Manila)
3. Plaza Dilao (Paco, Manila)
4. Nagtahan/Aurora Boulevard (Manila)
5. E Rodriguez Avenue (Quezon City)
6. Quezon Avenue (Quezon City)
7. Sergeant Rivera Street (Quezon City)
8. North Luzon Expressway
Secretary Villar also announced that the overall status of skyway is now at about 60%, with sections 1 and 3 both more than 80% completed.
“Section 1 from Buendia Avenue, Makati City to Quirino Avenue in Nagtahan, Manila is now 83 percent completed, while Section 3 from Ramon Magsaysay Avenue to Balintawak is 81 percent completed,” said Secretary Villar.
With the addition of Skyway Stage 3, traffic along EDSA will surely decongest, allowing motorists coming from the south to reach NLEX without the need to pass through the dreaded thoroughfare.
