Mitsubishi revealed the new 2017 Mirage which will come with a ton of upgrades

The Mitsubishi Mirage is one of the front-runners of the subcompact hatchback segment here in the Philippines. After years of having a minimalist yet cute and sporty design, Mitsubishi Motors unveils its new looks to the global market.

Here's a preview of this well-loved hatchback from the diamond brand at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, as well as other improvements that are hidden to the eyes.

Who wouldn't notice the 2017 Mirage's new front grille? Not only that it's bigger and looks better, but it also departs from the simple styling of the current model. In addition to that, the new chrome twin Y-bar that goes across the fog lamps is a real eye-catcher.

The crease on the hood makes it look bold and muscular, which we think is an indication of a more aggressive approach of Mitsubishi in designing their upcoming models.

When viewed on its side, the 2017 Mirage inherits the same character lines from its predecessor. However, it's fitted with newly designed V-spoke rims that complements its fiercely designed front fascia. The LED turning lights on the side mirrors are still present which adds more beauty and class to this hot hatch.

The rear end received a handful of upgrades as well such as a new spoiler, LED tail lights, a rear glass washer, and a chiseled bumper.

Per Mitsubishi, all these changes on the exterior are done with a purpose. The new Mirage promises more fuel efficiency with its aerodynamic design that also reduces weight.

Inside, the new 2017 Mirage received upgrades that the current model will certainly be envious of. It now has a new 300-watt Rockford-Fosgate audio system with EcoPunch. The large in-car display is also ready for Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™. This will be the first Mitsubishi vehicle to get the popular infotainment system in the U.S.

Other interior upgrades include new fabrics for the seats, gauge clusters, steering wheel, and shift panel.

Under the hood, the 2017 Mirage will still use the 1.2L 3-cylinder DOHC engine. However, it will feature the latest version of the Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) variable valve-timing system and a roller-type camshaft. Together, this will minimize exhaust emissions and will maximize fuel efficiency and power output. The current output rating that Mitsubishi announced is 78 hp and 74 Nm of torque.

Mitsubishi also guarantees that the incoming Mirage will have better handling and braking. Thanks to the optimized spring rate and damping force of the shocks that improve stability. Also, an increase of 23 millimeters in the diameter of front brake discs and rear brake drums will be used. These, plus the new brake pad/shoe material, will improve the hatch's performance in halting.

Lastly, the 2017 Mirage will feature a wide array of safety features and improved technologies. These will include 7 airbags (front, side, curtain, and knee), ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and brake assist, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and Active Stability Control (ASC) with Traction Control Logic (TCL). Models equipped with CVT will also include Hill Start Assist (HSA).

With all the improvements on the new 2017 Mirage mentioned above, the question is, when will it hit our shores? It's scheduled to be launched in the US by the 2nd quarter of 2016. We're as excited as you are but we have yet to hear from Mitsubishi Philippines as to when will they bring this new hot hatch into their showrooms.

As of the moment, the current Mitsubishi Mirage is still available for purchase. For its full specs and features, visit the AutoDeal Car Guide.
