The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) advises motorists that a Zipper Lane Traffic Scheme will be implemented starting Monday, January 23, 2017. This is to exhume all efforts to solve the problematic traffic flow in EDSA, especially during rush hours.
For starters, Zipper Lane Traffic Scheme is when a counter-flowing lane is opened for motorists to help ease the volume of vehicles that traverse EDSA. This will be on top of the Number Coding scheme currently implemented on the same road.
As announced on the official Facebook page of MMDA, the Zipper Lane Traffic Scheme will be at the southbound lane of EDSA from Main Avenue in Cubao to Poveda in Ortigas Center. It will be implemented from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Of note, northbound vehicles that need to make a U-turn under the Santolan Flyover will have to take the service road. On the other hand, cars that will need to turn left from EDSA going to Greenhills will need to take the service road of the Ortigas Flyover.
There will be a dry run for the said scheme on Friday, January 20, 2017. MMDA Chairman Thomas Orbos also mentioned that if this scheme is proven effective, it will be implemented at the northbound lane as well.
