To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution on February 25, 2016, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is now preparing new traffic management schemes. These will be scheduled to take effect as early as February 10.
This began with a recent meeting with the traffic management heads of the metro’s 17 local government units (LGU) and representatives from the EDSA People Power Commission (PPC).
Though February 25 has been declared as a non-working holiday by Malacanang, it’s still necessary to come up with a traffic management plan because starting February 10, organizers will be setting up an Experiential Museum along White Plains Avenue.” says MMDA Chairman Emerson Carlos,
“Residents of posh subdivisions in the area, such as Corinthian Garden and St. Ignatius, will be advised regarding the closure of some parts of White Plains Avenue,” he adds.
In line with this, several lanes along the White Plains Avenue particularly the westbound sections will be closed to traffic as these will be used as exhibit areas. MMDA will also clear the vicinity of plant boxes, bike shelters, and concrete barriers.
Finally, Edsa corner Ortigas Avenue all the way to Santolan will likewise be closed on the midnight of February 25 to give way for the annual re-enactment of the iconic “Salubungan.” Installations of zipper or counter-flow lanes are also taken into consideration to help smooth out traffic flow.
