Toyota Wigo

Ever since its introduction last February 2014, the Toyota Wigo can be seen almost anywhere from the streets and major roads of Metro Manila to the province. But why? Here’s a quick review of the Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT.

The Price Tag

The main allure or selling point of a Toyota Wigo is its affordable price tag. The SRP of the base model, Toyota Wigo 1.0 E MT, is under half a million. Even its top of the line variants are still economical even for the budget conscious - the Toyota Wigo 1.0 G MT and the Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT are priced at P526,000 and P561,000 respectively.  If you want to splurge, a limited edition TRD AT model is available at P 623,000.

The Design

The Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT has the personality and charisma to win the hearts of young consumers and first time car buyers. Although its exterior design is obviously inspired and borrowed from its larger brother, the Avanza, its smart, practical, and simple style delivers a well-thought look – an unexpected upside considering its affordability.

The interior of this Toyota vehicle is also kept to minimum with hard plastic dominating the side panels, dashboard, and center console. However, unlike its competitors, the Wigo’s rear seats don't fold 60/40. You have to put the seat down as a piece.  Good thing it has a spacious legroom and an entertainment system to make up for the lack of cargo space.

The Performance and Driving Experience

The Toyota Wigo 1.0L G AT was easy to drive even for a person who stands 5 feet. The steering wheel was at the right height, the knobs at the center console was within reach, the gauge cluster was legible, and the pedals were properly laid out. The size of the Wigo also contributes to the pleasurable driving experience. Since it only measures 3,600 mm in length and 1,620 mm in width, you can squeeze this Toyota model through tight city streets.

For some its 1.0L 3-cylinder is inept but it’s enough to get where you want considering its fuel economy and speed. Even with its 4-speed automatic transmission, the engine produces a commendable 65 hp and 85 Nm of torque. Fuel economy is also impressively good with 15.9 km/L.

With an affordable price tag, capable engine, and spacious interior, the Toyota Wigo 1.0 G AT is a great option for those with a limited budget.
