The Lynk & Co brand has just recently launched in the country, bringing a trio of crossovers into the Philippine market. For the uninitiated, Lynk & Co is a Chinese-Swedish brand co-owned by Volvo Cars, Geely Auto Group, and Zhejiang Geely Holding.
Lynk & Co’s crossovers embody the ethos of interconnectivity, hence the name “Lynk”. In addition, their ethos of interconnectedness is aimed at a newer generation of people with a much more fast-paced lifestyle.
Speaking of lifestyle, a car doesn’t only have to be good, it also has to match well with a person’s needs and way of life for it to be a great purchase. With that said, let’s talk about Lynk & Co’s lineup of crossovers and figure out for what sort of people each of their cars matches the best.
Lynk & Co 01
Let’s begin with Lynk & Co’s inaugural model, the one that started it all, the 01. The 01, pronounced “Zero One” is a Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) compact crossover powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine paired with an electric motor. This powertrain gives the 01 251 hp and 350 Nm of torque on tap driving all four wheels.
It’s an impressive amount of power and considering the 01 is similar in size to the Geely Coolray, it should be a reasonably agile machine as well. Coupled with the cutting-edge powertrain is a sleek and modern interior featuring a 10-speaker Harman Infinity Audio System, a 12.7-inch infotainment system, and plush, soft-touch materials, as well as leather upholstery.
So, inside and out, the 01 is a pretty commendable crossover, but for what kind of driver or person is it for? For us, the 01 is for the driver who is in touch with the times, the kind of person who wants a practical machine like a crossover but chooses more sustainable methods of propulsion. The 01 suits a balanced lifestyle which demands a car that can be a fuel-efficient daily driver and a practical, but fast weekend getaway vehicle. Much like its price positioning in the lineup, the 01 is an all-rounder vehicle, it’s got a great mix of amenities, practicality, and power, perfect for the person who likes to enjoy a wide range of experiences.
Lynk & Co 06
Next on the list is the 06, the most accessibly priced of the three. Though it’s the least expensive in Lynk & Co’s lineup, it still possesses a considerable amount of comfort and safety features that make it a compelling choice for those looking for a crossover.
Powering the 06 is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, despite not having a hybrid powertrain, the 06 still has a lot of zip with 178 hp and 290 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
It’s tamer than the 01 and 05, but what demographic does the 06 fit? In our eyes, the 06 is a car that can fit those living mainly in the metro, it has the makings of a great daily driver with its simple powertrain, a decent amount of entertainment features, and a plush interior. Like the 01 it’s got advanced driver assist systems like autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control which will let you take a breather from driving in the hellish Metro Manila traffic.
If you’re a person who mainly operates within the confines of Metro Manila and you want luxury, safety, and comfort in your crossover? The 06 has more than enough to satisfy you.
Lynk & Co 05
The third crossover in Lynk & Co’s lineup is the 05. It shares the underpinnings and most of the components of the 01 but the 05 is designed to be sportier and wilder with a coupé styled body.
The body is not only where the 05 and 01 diverge but also in terms of the powertrain. Powering this low-slung crossover is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine that puts out 251 hp and 350 Nm of torque.
If the amount of power and the sleeker body were not enough of an indication of the purpose of the 05, this crossover also has an all-wheel drivetrain giving it some serious grip on the road. The 05 crossover, we think, is for drivers who have an active lifestyle and indulge in some fast, weekend cruises from time to time. Like the activities they partake in their day-to-day life, they want a car that can keep up and inject some adrenaline into their commute as well. The 05’s powerful engine and all-wheel drive can give these people that adrenaline rush, plus, the sleek looks will help them stand out from the crowd as well.
