Mazda MX-5

Since its debut in 2015, the Mazda MX-5 has received various awards proving that it is the best car in the world. The Japanese brand, however, is still looking to upgrade its iconic roadster with a few more tricks.

According to a report by the Japanese website Car Watch, the 2019 MX-5 will receive a power boost. Yup, its 2.0L SkyActiv G engine will get 181 hp and 205 Nm of torque. That’s 26 horses and 5 Nm of torque more than the current model. This power plant update will also see the redline at 7,500 rpm compared to the previous 6,800 rpm.

In addition, the engineers at Mazda reduced noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels in the cabin by using a two-part flywheel. Speaking of sound, the muffler’s silencer has been improved to cut high frequency noise so expect a deeper exhaust note.

While most of the improvements are made under the hood, the upcoming MX-5 will get a few technological updates as well but only the automatic emergency braking feature was disclosed.

Apart from that, the 2019 Mazda MX-5 will come with a feature that’s been highly anticipated by bigger people who want to drive this pocket rocket – a telescoping steering wheel. Finally, future owners of this roadster will be able to adjust the steering wheel, allowing them to have easier access in and out of the MX-5, as well as get into a comfortable driving position.

The report, on the other hand, didn’t say much about its exterior. In fact, it only mentioned that the interior will have a new Bright Sports Tan color trim while the exterior will get a "Caramel Top." Maybe the engineers didn’t want to change its already beautiful design. After all, if it’s not broken, why fix it?
