Michelin, in global partnership with Shell, is on a new approach in ensuring road safety and better mobility through an important keyword – innovation. This takes place in the 3rd and final year of the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia (SEMA) 2016 in the Philippines.
As the official global partner and tire supplier of SEMA 2016, Michelin sets the theme for the contest that the participants should be focusing in. They will also be providing technical assistance and support to the participating teams throughout the competition.
From March 3 - 6, participating student teams will be creating prototype vehicles that are dependable, environment-friendly, and fuel efficient. To win, teams should be able to go the farthest with just 1-Liter of gasoline. They can modify the cars as much as they want to maximize its aerodynamics and energy conservation.
Winners of the Shell Eco-Marathon in Asia, Europe, and the Americas will compete in the 1st championship series in London on July 2016.
Innovation is Michelin’s key strategy and driving factor for the search of new technologies, leading to ideas, products, or methods that improve road safety and mobility for all motorists, passengers and pedestrians. Michelin’s alliance with Shell furthers this search by seeking out the ideas of students in the Shell Eco-Marathon.", said Damien Hallez-Gozzard, Michelin Group Technical Communication Director.
The Michelin Safety City at the Fanzone, SEMA grounds are open to public from March 4 - 6. Their Innovation tires will be on display like the Michelin Primacy SUV Tire which was launched last February 2016. These tires can give up to a shorter 2.2 meters braking distance on wet roads, 1.9 meters shorter on dry conditions, and 6% improved grip in wet cornering.
A Facebook photo contest called Michelin #SafetyMobility has also started, wherein visitors can send pictures that shows how road safety rules are followed (or not) by Filipino motorists. More than 1 entry can be sent simply by posting the picture on the Shell Eco-marathon Asia Michelin 2016 Facebook page from March 1 - 6. It should also come with a caption to describe the image. Winners will receive prizes from Michelin and will be announced daily throughout the event.
