There has been a hype going on about the new Sonata, since Hyundai revealed the early sketches on their Facebook page – and we dig it too.
Today, let all the excitement channel to the real thing; the 2018 Sonata is now out for the eyes. The refreshed model is packed with aggressive design expression following the success of the previous Sonatas. The now-larger cascading grille extends farther down on the bumper, enclosed by the large air vents at the sides. The revamped headlights looks meaner as compared to the older model.
The rear follows a close evolution from the previous models. It now has more eloquent taillights and a large Sonata lettering. Moreover, it sits on 17-inch wheels, with 2 optional 18-inch alloy wheel design.
In the cabin, the center console now has enhanced features, such as 7-inch color touchscreen display which is a standard for the new Sonata. In addition, controls for the HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) are now in 'piano key' buttons, while the steering wheel is changed into 3-spoke design.
Powerwise, the 2018 Sonata will have 4 engine options. The first is the 1.6L T-GDI that delivers 180 hp and 265 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the 2.0L CCVL engine generates 163 hp and 196 Nm while the 2.0L T-GDI produces 245 hp and 353 Nm. Lastly, the 1.7L VGT turbodiesel engine has an output of 141 hp and 340 Nm. However, you do have to take note that engine types and specifications vary depending on the market.
As for now, the new Sonata is only available in South Korean market, although deliveries in other countries are expected to begin mid this year.
