Car Comparo: Which would you prefer, Mitsubishi Adventure or Isuzu Crosswind?

Based on our data, Asian Utility Vehicles (AUVs) are still among the top choices of Filipino car buyers. The contenders within this segment are the Mitsubishi Adventure and the Isuzu Crosswind, but which is the better choice? Here’s a head-to-head comparison between the two.

To make sure that we’re on the same ground, we compared the top-of-the-line manual variants of each model – Adventure Super Sport versus Crosswind Sportivo X Urban Edition. Both are packed with equally capable features but their subtle differences can make or break your choice.

Price

This round goes to the Mitsubishi Adventure Super Sport. It sells at P975,000, which is less expensive than the Isuzu Crosswind Sportivo X Urban Edition that has a price tag of P1,190,000. The price difference may be huge, but we’ll see if it can be justified by the latter through its performance, dimensions, interior amenities, and safety/technology features.

Performance

When it comes to their power plants, both AUVs are on the same ground. They have the same 2.5L diesel engine that’s coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. However, looking at their performance figures, the Crosswind has a slight advantage with 10 hp and 11 Nm of torque. This translates to more speed and pulling power.

With the slight advantage in the power output rating, the Isuzu Crosswind Sportivo X Urban Edition takes this round.

Dimensions

This is another department where Isuzu excels. Although both of them can seat 7 people, the Crosswind’s body is 95 mm longer, 20 mm wider, and 70 mm taller than the Adventure. It also has a 60 mm longer wheelbase which means it has more legroom. These advantages translates to more interior space for the passengers – giving them maximum comfort while inside the vehicle.

Moreover, the Crosswind also has a slightly higher ground clearance which tops the Adventure by 8mm. For a people mover, this means it can carry its maximum load with less worries on humps, rough terrain, and floods.

Interior

These two AUVs are a tough matchup when it comes to interior features. Both of them have rear parking sensors, leather seats, keyless entry systems, dual airconditioning, power steering, power windows, and navigation ready head units. However, the Crosswind is fitted with a 7-inch audio/video entertainment system, which is slightly bigger than the 6.2-inch touchscreen LCD of the Adventure.

For us, this is a tie between the two mainly because the slightly smaller head unit of the Adventure has touchscreen capability, matching the size advantage of the Crosswind’s LCD.

Safety/Technology

Although both vehicles are equipped with keyless entry systems and security alarms, the Adventure takes this round with its immobilizer, an anti-theft electronic security device that prevents the engine from running unless the original key is inserted in the starter.

Verdict

It’s a close matchup between these two AUVs. However, the price advantage of the Mitsubishi Adventure Super Sport is an attractive factor for the buyers of this segment.

Then again, if you have the extra P215,000 budget for an AUV, you can opt for the bigger Isuzu Crosswind Sportivo X Urban Edition. Besides, it’s the newest Crosswind variant which features beefed-up exterior upgrades such as a roof rails and basket, and gun-metallic finish alloy wheels.
