Chrysler Portal with facial recognition

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has revealed the Portal concept at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

With the collaboration of teams from FCA and Panasonic Automotive, the Portal concept was able to integrate the Panasonic Cognitive Infotainment (PCI) platform to provide new technology solutions for future consumer needs.

“When our teams began imagining the user experiences inside the Chrysler Portal, we set out to identify a long-time supplier partner who could help push the limits of customization and personalization,” said Scott Thiele, Chief Purchasing Officer for FCA NV and Head of Purchasing and Supplier Quality for FCA – North America.

In addition, the Chrysler Portal concept provides affordable technology that is upgradable and adaptable. This is utilized through the Chrysler Portal Concept Companion App, which could be downloaded into a mobile phone. The app can customize the vehicle’s interior lighting, home settings, toggle door locks, and even control the car.

Moreover, a facial recognition system with voice biometrics provides an added personalized experience. With the facial recognition, the car can recognize its passengers then select preferred settings, such as, music, lighting, temperature, etc. The voice biometrics, on the other hand, lets passengers to manually command the car with various actions like unlocking car doors.

Even more, the car is powered with a high-powered computing system enabling it to perform level 3 autonomous driving. During Level 3 autonomous driving, the car communicates status through the 3-D-able Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED) screen.

The Chrysler Portal concept is also equipped with a Vehicle-to-X (V2X) communication system, which allows it to talk with public infrastructure, Wifi, and other vehicles via sensors. To give you an idea, the concept’s V2X system can notify the vehicle if an ambulance is approaching.
