Nissan has officially opened the Nissan Motor Asia Pacific (NMAP) Research and Development (R&D) Test Center in Samut Prakan, Thailand. NMAP’s new facility would be the main R&D hub for the ASEAN markets.
The facility is said to address customer needs in the ASEAN region as well as align Nissan’s market requirements. It also aims to improve the company’s current quality assurance for product launches and upstream the product development phase for its trial prototypes.
A total of 12 models will be tested at the center, including the Navara, the Almera, and the X-Trail Hybrid.
NMAP R&D test center will primarily service the five ASEAN countries - Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand. According to Nissan, they will also provide their quality assurance testing for more than 90 countries around the world.
Over 1 billion Thai baht (around P1.3 billion) has been invested in the 6,600 square meter facility. Today, NMAP boasts an R&D center with industry-first testing facilities in Thailand featuring an anechoic chamber, acoustic chamber, and vibration simulator with environmental chamber. Through this, Nissan engineers will be able to refine the NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) of its vehicles.
By the end of fiscal year 2016, Nissan claims that the R&D center in Samut Prakan, Thailand will have a total of 330 staffs with local engineers trained in Japan to operate the testing facilities.
