2018 Honda Accord

Just like its brother Civic compact sedan, the Honda Accord is confirmed to be joining the small displacement turbocharged engine bandwagon among a number of nameplates from different brands. The Japanese marque reveals that an all-new 10th generation Accord is nearing its launch and it will stick with 4-cylinder direct injection as its engine options.

This will remove the V6 engine out of the choices – leaving the consumers to choose between smaller 1.5L or 2.0L turbo mills. Although engine ratings haven’t been disclosed yet, Honda claims that the new engine options will be highly efficient and will have high torque.

A 6-speed manual tranny is also available as an option (at least for the U.S. market) for both engine choices, alongside the continuously variable transmission (CVT) for the 1.5L option and a first-of-its-class 10-speed slushbox for the 2.0L mill.

Along with those 2 gasoline-powered powertrains, an all-new Accord Hybrid will also be available, powered by Honda’s innovative 2-motor hybrid technology – the leveled up version of the motors found in the locally-available Honda Legend luxury sedan. This technology allows the car to operate without the use of a conventional automatic transmission and can control its handling by electronically distributing the torque among its rear wheels.

As for its looks, the 2018 Accord is still camouflaged on the photos released. However, Honda claims that it will have a dramatically lower and wider look to create a more aggressive and athletic stance than the current model.

It was just last year when Honda Philippines brought in an updated Accord that features a sleek design revamp, combining sporty and classy in a midsize sedan. If the all-new Accord will land the U.S. showrooms by the end of this year, we’ll most likely get it by 2018 – if it will.

With the 10th generation Accord, the competition within the local midsize sedan segment will be stirred, considering how small the new engines are compared to the rest of its class.
