Ford Philippines has once again stepped up its efforts in making a difference in communities with a financial donation to Gawad Kalinga to help support farmers affected by Typhoon Ompong last September.
Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation, Inc. (GK) was formally established in 2003, but work began as early as 1994, with the goal of uplifting and providing for five million less-fortunate families in the Philippines by 2024. By empowering and educating communities, GK aims to overcome obstacles that hinder the development of an enabling environment for our fellow Filipinos. GK works with the private and public sector, rich and poor, young and old, and with other countries to maximize and leverage resources to make sure that the goodwill and actual life-changing impact is felt many times over.
At the heart of rebuilding hope are the people who need to get back on their feet. At Ford Philippines, we strive to contribute to nation-building by providing grants that make a long- lasting impact to the communities in need. At the core of these grants is sustainability, ensuring that the funding will help change more lives for the better, now and in the years to come.
The financial donation amounting to USD 25,000 (about P1,310,000), made possible by a Global Giving grant that collected donations from around the world, will provide livelihood opportunities to 20 farmers and their families, and help get them back on their feet after suffering from their losses during the typhoon. These farmers tend to hectares of land and provide crops to our nation, and any extra help will provide them with the means to do more. The funding will also be used to purchase two boats to be used in future relief operations as well as to ferry students living in remote areas to their schools.
