Hyundai reveals the 2026 Staria Electric

At the 2026 Brussels Motor Show, South Korean automaker Hyundai has taken the covers off the Staria Electric. Of course, the main headline is the new electric powertrain, but Hyundai has done more than that as well.

Aside from going electric, Hyundai has introduced an extensive number of updates to the exterior and interior. Let’s start with these changes first. Exterior updates include a revised front LED light strip with “STARIA” engraved on the sides, a new grille and front bumper, and refreshed headlights. The model now rides on bespoke 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels.

Inside, the cabin has been reworked with a more horizontal design theme in line with newer Hyundai models. A new steering wheel is accompanied by larger 12.3-inch displays for both the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system, which run updated software. The center stack has also been redesigned, with the gear selector relocated to the steering column, physical buttons added to replace touch-sensitive controls, and the air vents repositioned for a cleaner layout.

Moving to the powertrain, the Hyundai Staria Electric uses a front-mounted single electric motor producing 218 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque, allowing it to reach a top speed of 184 kph. Power comes from an 84 kWh lithium-ion battery, delivering an estimated driving range of up to 400 km on a single charge. When connected to a DC fast charger, the battery can be replenished from 10 to 80 percent in around 20 minutes.

The shift toward electrification is straightforward: in South Korea, the Staria is phasing out its 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine in favor of a 1.6-liter turbocharged hybrid paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain, also used in the Santa Fe Hybrid, produces around 235 horsepower and 367 Nm of torque. The Staria Electric is scheduled to go on sale in the first half of 2026 in South Korea. Europe has been confirmed as one of the initial markets for the all-electric version, with more regions set to follow later on. Hyundai hasn’t mentioned discontinuation of the diesel mill in other markets, so for now, the Staria diesel is here to stay in the Philippines.
