Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. along with Nissan Motorsports International Co., Ltd., has decided to cancel this year’s NISMO Festival. The motorsports event is held every year and serves as a fan appreciation event by the Japanese brand. It is annually held at the Fuji Speedway in Japan and showcases vehicles such as the Nissan GT-R, the Nissan 370Z, and other new vehicles to showcase to the fans. Along with the Japanese brand’s own vehicle display, car clubs and other enthusiasts can also go and display their vehicles for the public to see. While it is a manufacturer-backed event it's still nice to see that Nissan is willing to reach out to its fans and celebrate the brand through an annual show and event.
The NISMO Festival was originally scheduled for December 6, 2020, however, with the world still battling the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and with still no proven cure in sight, Nissan has opted to cancel it. Major public events like this could be a cause for concern as despite countermeasures being deployed and strict enforcement being applied the transmission of the deadly disease could happen. Opting to stay on the safer side and prioritizing the health and safety of its fans, participating teams, exhibitors, as well as for Nissan and NISMO employees.
While it is unfortunate that fan-oriented manufacturer-backed events like this have to be canceled, the general health and well being of the public is more important. Despite the event not pushing through, Nissan and Nismo will make every effort to further improve the event for 2021 the years succeeding it, in the hope that more fans will look forward to the event and enjoy the NISMO festival in the future. Who knows in the 2021 event we might see what Nissan has in store in terms of its next-generation performance cars as well as its plans for future electric related vehicle mobility.
