Parking, in most cases, could be a little too time-consuming – especially when you are a devoted parent who had just arrived home from a tiring trip with your kid. If you can just watch your car park on its own, that would be great.
The R&D team from Audi seems to align with this idea with its recently-released teaser of the 2018 A8 and its AI remote parking pilot. The video shows a dad driving his son home after what is indirectly imposed as a movie-date to the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming (in which the car will make a cameo). Instead of spending time to drive the car into the garage, he picks up his son and reaches for the key fob to auto park it.
Not only can the A8 park on its own, the nameplate also features a stop/stop function that analyzes different traffic situations. Sensors in the fascia of the car detects vehicles in front, turning of the engine when stuck in traffic. When the vehicle in front moves, the belt alternator starter (BAS) turns on the combustion engine promptly. This is because the car is integrated with the mild 48-Volt hybrid drivetrain, which controls the BAS.
In addition to this, the Audi A8 will be available in 3 engines composed of a gasoline and diesel variants. The powerplant lineup is made up of the 4.0L TFSI quattro COD gasoline engine with 530 hp and 2 diesel engines, namely: the 3.0L TDI quattro with 262 hp and the 4.2L TDI quattro with 385 hp. Even more, the German automaker also claims that the 2018 A8 can enter noiseless coasting mode with 0 emission for 40 seconds within the speed range of 55 to 160 km/h.
The 2018 Audi A8 is set to make world debut in Barcelona on July 11, 2017.
