The Mitsubishi L300 has been one of the go-to commercial vehicles in the country for the longest time. This has been the choice for old Filipino movie villains and for business owners. It is also one of Mitsubishi Philippines’ longest-running nameplates. The L300 was thought to have been discontinued last year as the vehicle did not meet the Euro 4 standards set by the government for all new vehicles. However, it looks like the L300 is back but with a new engine.
To revive one of its oldest nameplates, Mitsubishi has managed to put in a new engine, the 2.2-liter 4N14. The new engine gives L300 40 percent more torque and power and 10 percent more fuel efficiency compared to the old pre-Euro 4 vehicle. Exact power figures for the new L300 aren’t out yet. If the stock figures of the 4N14 will be carried over, the L300 could produce a little over 170hp and 380 Nm of torque. What is sure though, is that it will come with a 5-speed manual transmission. Another unknown factor is if the 5-speed transmission will be a column shifter or a traditional transmission that is attached to the floor.
In addition to the new engine, the cab height of the L300 has also received a revision as well. The cab height has increased by 100 millimeters, which gives the driver better visibility as the cab now sits higher compared to the previous model. This also makes the vehicle look taller while retaining the same ground clearance as the previous model.
The new L300 will initially be available in its FB variant. This variant has seating for 17 passengers and features dual aircon. It also comes with spray-on Rhino lining for the floor of the cab in the rear. This makes the rear of the vehicle more durable as the loading and unloading of objects may scratch up the bed.
Mitsubishi dealerships are now accepting reservations for this new L300 Euro 4. Prices for the new Euro 4 L300 starts at P998,000. There is, however, no news yet as to when the reserved units will be released.
