The next-generation Kia Sportage has been speculatively rendered by Gotcha Cars, and based on the image, the upcoming compact crossover features a radical design language that takes quite a departure from the outgoing model.
While its cousin, the Hyundai Tucson, has been enjoying the spotlight since last year, the Kia Sportage is still going through its testing phase given the spy shots that have been circulating online. Based on the photo shown above, the rendering done by Gotcha Cars appears to be quite accurate when compared to the spy shots.
Like the fourth-generation Tucson, the all-new Kia Sportage features a radical and distinctive exterior design that looks sleek and modern. One of its main highlights is its fascia that comes with a pair of vertically oriented headlights with DRLs integrated into the inner edge of the housings. Another striking yet polarizing design cue is the large tiger-nose grille that adds that right amount of toughness to the compact crossover. Plus, it’s also one of the first models in Kia’s lineup to carry its new logo.
Surprisingly, the next-generation Kia Sportage doesn’t seem to carry any familiar design cues from its crossover siblings. Perhaps, recent reports were true, as the all-new crossover might premiere a new design language for the brand, given that it does look kind of different from the rest of Kia’s current lineup.
It is expected to carry the same platform and engine options as the current Hyundai Tucson. Some reports even say that the South Korean automaker could possibly be developing a two wheelbase configuration, therefore, giving future buyers the option of a longer wheelbase Sportage. Although, this option might vary per market once it’s finally out of the covers. Several reports claim that the fifth-generation Kia Sportage could debut this April. With that, stay tuned and keep your eyes peeled for further updates.
